The Hell Fire Challenge

When Brooke told me that they were coming into town she also mentioned seeing Kobe Sushi on "Man vs Food" and said that James (her fiance) wanted to try the featured "Hellfire Challenge". Well, this is something that you just cant miss out on! I wanted in! Not to partake in the challenge, but to be a spectator. So Friday we all decided to head up there.
We were excited to find that Pete, my stepsister's husband, was also going to try it.

Jaime and Pete

James, Brooke and their friend Kristin there at the end

Todd and Mom

This is the "yum-yum roll" that the server recommended to start with because it coats your stomach with cream cheese, which helps with the burning..

The challenge consists of 7 levels of hot. To qualify you just have to eat three pieces of the #6 hot roll.

Yeah, apparently its hot..

James started sweating and running from the nose..

This is where the "challenge begins". Its like $19.99 or something, plus the price of the previous rolls. I thought this was a rip off but it's all in the challenge so they decided to proceed. This is the #6.5 level hot roll. If i remember correctly, they each had to eat one or two.

Poor Pete had eaten so many things to "coat his stomach" and cooled the burning with so much diet coke, water and milk that he was done at this point.

The chef came out at this point to check on these crazy boys.

James decided to proceed without Pete so he had to sign a waiver to move on to the next level.

This is the #7 level hot roll. You have to eat 6 of these pieces to pass the challenge.

Pete got free ice cream for trying.

James made it through one of the #7 pieces before throwing in the towel.
He has a tear, his nose was running like a faucet, he is sweating and he is turning red. I'm glad he stopped!

Pete is talking to another patron who has previously passed the challenge. He says the trick is "being asian, white people aren't use to eating spicy foods".

This is how the night ended. James lost his cookies (or sushi rolls rather). Gross, i know. But I think they both survived to tell a great story about Hellfire in and Hellfire out!
